Tt was a terrible storm.Six inches of rain had fallen in the first twenty-four hours.Eight had fallen on the second day.The entire town was flooded.Over at the Bronson house,little Jimmy Bronson,eight-year-old,sat at the window of his upstairs room and stared outside.He was looking at a sun hat that was floating in one direction for a while,then seemed to get caught up and start to float back toward the house.The process went on for hours.
Jimmy's uncle came by the house to see if all was well,and saw his nephew staring .He staated to look too,and couldn't understand why the hat kept moving up and back,up and back .
Finally he asked Jimmy,"What's going on down there?"
Jimmy said,"That's pa.Last week he said,'Come hell or high water,I'm going to now the lawn Saturday!"
好大的一场暴雨啊！第一个24小时下了6英寸（约152毫米）的降水，第2天又继续下了8英寸（约203毫米），整个村庄都被淹没了。在勃朗狲的屋子的上面，8岁的小吉米 勃朗狲正坐在他楼上屋子的窗上盯着外面看。他看见一个太阳帽正朝着一个固定方向漂了好一会，然后看起来好象被什么东西拉着似的，开始朝房子这边漂了好一会，然后看起来好象被什么东西拉着似的，开始朝房子这边漂来。这个过程持续了几个小时。
吉米的舅舅经过他们的房子来看看是否好些了，只看见他的外甥在盯着什么看，他开始朝着那个方向看去，不明白那个帽子为什么漂过来又漂过去，漂过来又漂过去。
最后他问吉米，“那下面发生了什么事？”
吉米回答：“那是我爸爸，上个星期他说，即使是下地狱或者发大水，星期六我也要去修理草坪。”
